If you’ve ever felt jerked around, held hostage, or even exhausted by your own thoughts, you are not alone.
Many of our clients come to us carrying painful, heavy questions: Why am I feeling so anxious lately? Will this constant worry ever stop? Does “healthy” anxiety even exist? When your inner voice is screaming at you, it can feel like you are trapped in a mental tug-of-war. For years, the traditional medical model has treated anxiety as a “disorder” to be cured or a checklist of symptoms to be suppressed. At Liberated Mind Therapy, we take a different approach. We don’t view your anxiety as a sign that you are broken. Instead, we see it as a natural, albeit overwhelming, human response to the stress, pressure, and transitions of life.
How Liberated Mind Can Help You
Our goal isn’t just to help you “manage symptoms,” it’s to help you liberate yourself from painful states of mind so you can reclaim a sense of purpose and meaning. We tailor our approach to where you are right now, drawing on modern, evidence-based practices like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Mind-Body Bridging.
Here is what we focus on together to help you find solid footing:
- Developing Psychological Flexibility: We help you change your relationship with your anxious thoughts. Instead of running from vulnerability and fear, we teach you how to open up, accept your experiences, and move forward anyway.
- Defusing the Tug-of-War: Using mindfulness and identity system “resting” techniques, we help you quiet the self-defeating noise of the mind and rediscover the power of the present moment.
- The Foundation of SDE: We look at the whole picture. Sleep, Diet, and Exercise (SDE) are the three pillars of mental well-being. We’ll help you honestly evaluate and strengthen these foundational habits before we tackle the rest.
- Connecting with Your “Why”: Anxiety often pulls us away from what matters most. We work together to identify your core values and create an active plan to start moving toward the life you truly want to live.
- Practicing Self-Compassion: You will learn to separate your self-worth from the stories your mind tells you, replacing harsh self-judgment with kindness.
Navigating Anxiety: Finding Peace in the Present Moment
You don’t have to stay stuck in a paper cage of your mind’s own making. With support, guidance, and the right tools, you can experience true clarity, focus, equanimity, and kindness.
Common Questions We Hear About Anxiety
Does “healthy” anxiety exist?
Yes. Anxiety is a normal human emotion designed to keep us safe and alert to potential dangers. It only becomes a problem when it starts making decisions for you—when it keeps you from honoring your values, accomplishing your goals, or connecting with the people you love. Our goal isn’t to eliminate anxiety entirely, but to change how you relate to it so it no longer runs your life.
Do I have to meditate? My mind is too busy!
We hear this all the time: “But I just can’t meditate!” If that’s the story your mind is telling you, it might be time to challenge it. Mindfulness and meditation are skills, and like any skill, they take practice. We work with you where you are, using accessible techniques (and highly recommended resources like Meditation for Fidgety Skeptics) to help you withdraw from automatic responses and find equanimity.
Will therapy really change how I feel?
Developing psychological flexibility is an active (not passive) process. Doing the work during our sessions is important, but true change comes from exploring and doing things between sessions. We will ask you to engage with tools, articles, and new behaviors. If you are willing to practice self-compassion and commit to the work, you absolutely can change your relationship to your thoughts.
