Moving Toward Meaning
Are you feeling stuck, anxious, or tired of feeling “MEH,” but the idea of sitting in a traditional, four-walled clinic feels intimidating or restrictive? Maybe it just sounds like “more of the same” or even just boring? We hear you!
At Liberated Mind, we believe that therapy shouldn’t just be passive talking, it should be an active, values-based journey toward the life you want. That’s why we offer Walk and Talk Therapy, an experiential approach that takes our evidence-based practices out of the office and into the natural beauty of Utah.

What is Walk and Talk Therapy?
Walk and Talk Therapy blends traditional psychotherapy, like Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), with the physica / somatic l and psychological benefits of movement and ecotherapy. Instead of sitting across from each other on a screen or a couch, you and your therapist walk side-by-side on a local trail or path.
In an age where millions turn to screens and Artificial Intelligence for quick mental health information, we recognize that true healing is experiential and relational, not just informational. While apps can explain psychology, they cannot replicate the lived experience of human connection, compassionate witnessing, and the grounding power of nature.
Is Walk and Talk Therapy Right For You?
Walk and talk sessions remove common barriers to therapy and offer a highly approachable path forward. This format might be a perfect fit if you:
- Process Best in Motion: Not everyone processes emotions the same way. If you find that your clearest thoughts and deepest conversations happen while you’re moving, this format aligns with your natural rhythm.
- Prefer Less Eye Contact: Sitting face-to-face can sometimes feel socially inhibiting or overly vulnerable. Walking side-by-side limits direct eye contact, which reduces relational inhibition and makes it easier to share painful emotions.
- Want to Regulate Your Nervous System: Therapy is vulnerable work. Physical movement and time in nature serve as natural scaffolding for your nervous system, helping you feel more emotionally regulated while processing difficult topics.
- Crave a Screen-Free Reset: Stepping away from screens, traffic, and the news kicks off a behavioral activation process that naturally supports your well-being.
- Feel Constricted by Office Walls: For individuals who feel restless sitting still—such as those with ADHD—the open environment of the outdoors feels much more liberating and natural.
The Healing Power of Nature and Movement
When we step outdoors, the environment becomes an active partner in the therapeutic experience. Taking your session outside accelerates your growth in several measurable ways:
- Anchoring in the Present: The sensory-rich outdoors, with the sound of birds, the feeling of the sun, the rustle of wind, it naturally anchors your awareness in the present moment. This is a core skill in mindfulness that dramatically reduces ruminating thoughts about the past or future.
- Embodied Empowerment: Outdoor sessions are co-created. You get to choose the pace and the trail, practicing real-time self-advocacy, setting boundaries, and building empowerment that you can carry over into your daily life.
- Biological Benefits: Time spent in nature has been scientifically shown to lower cortisol (the stress hormone), improve sleep, boost self-confidence, and spark feelings of awe that shift your perspective outward.
A Flexible, Optional Experience
We recognize that everyone’s needs, preferences, and physical abilities are different. Walk and Talk Therapy is an entirely optional service. You are never required to go for a walk to receive excellent care at Liberated Mind.
If you prefer the comfort and convenience of your own space, you can continue to benefit from our standard, highly effective telehealth therapy sessions. Additionally, if mobility restrictions are a limitation, or if you simply prefer a different setting to get out of the house, we also offer an in-person “meet for coffee” option.
How Scheduling Works: For those interested in Walk and Talk or meeting for coffee, you and your therapist will collaborate directly to arrange a convenient time and local meeting place. To accommodate travel and scheduling logistics, these in-person sessions are offered on the following cadence:
- Weekly Clients: A once-a-month option.
- Bi-Weekly Clients: A once-every-other-month option.
- Less Frequent Clients: As your therapist’s schedule permits.
