Confidentiality & Privacy Policy
The law protects the relationship between a client and a psychotherapist, and information cannot be disclosed without written permission.
Exceptions include:
- Suspected child abuse or dependent adult or elder abuse, local and federal law requires us to report this to the appropriate authorities immediately.
- If a client is threatening serious bodily harm to another person/s, we are what is called “mandatory reporters” and must notify the police and inform the intended victim.
- If a client intends to harm themselves, we will make every effort to enlist the client’s cooperation to ensure safety comes first. However, in the face of non-cooperation, we will take further measures, at times without a client’s express permission, as required of us by law as “mandatory reporters” to ensure a client’s safety.
